Google Workspace — default for this audience

Strengths: Gmail you already know; Calendar and Meet that a homeowner can join from a phone; Drive for the insurance PDF; admin that a one-person shop can finish on a Saturday. You can keep the domain at GoDaddy or another registrar while mail lives at Google.

Tradeoffs: you will paste DNS records. Per-user billing is rent. Google’s admin UI is not a plumber’s truck. If you wanted one login with the domain registrar, this is not that.

Use Workspace when the job is “mail that matches the van, plus a calendar.” Do not use it as a personality. It is plumbing.

Microsoft 365 — when Outlook is already the shop

Strengths: Outlook on the web, desktop, and phone; Word/Excel if that is how estimates actually get made; commonly sold next to a domain at GoDaddy. For a shop that already thinks in Outlook, switching to Gmail is unpaid homework.

Tradeoffs: if nobody in the building opens Outlook, you just bought a new hobby. Mail is not a reason to learn a second suite. We do not currently treat Microsoft as the affiliate default on this property; links to Microsoft are editorial. Verify current plan names and prices on microsoft.com.

Microsoft loses when the whole practice already runs on Gmail and Google Calendar. It wins when the domain-plus-mail checkout at a registrar is the actual Saturday.

Registrar forwarding — a bridge

Strengths: fast, cheap, sometimes “included.” You can print a domain address while Workspace verifies.

Tradeoffs: it is not a mailbox. Sending, filing, 2FA, sharing with a bookkeeper, and looking like a grown-up all suffer. If a registrar named it “professional email,” read whether you get a login or a redirect.

Turn it off after real MX works. Two systems on one domain is how mail vanishes.

How to decide in fifteen minutes

If you already live in Gmail: Workspace, one seat. If you already live in Outlook or want one vendor with a GoDaddy domain: Microsoft 365, and read Start A Site. If you only need this weekend: forwarding, with a calendar reminder to kill it. Then go receive a test message. Comparison pages are not launches.
